Playground Indoor Mural at Tauranga Crossing by Jasmine Kroeze in Tauranga

This mural was commissioned for Tauranga Crossing, one of the busiest local shopping malls. Located in the indoor Playpark, the artwork was designed to bring colour, life and connection to the space where families gather and play. The design draws from the surrounding Kaimai bush and celebrates Aotearoa’s unique native flora. I featured local species such as kōkako mushrooms, tawa, kōwaowao, mingimingi, clematis (puawananga), tānekaha, and māpou which are all found in the surrounding area. I included abstract textures from my signature mark-making techniques. This mural was created with earthy, inviting tones that compliment the interior palette of the existing playground, natural greens, ochres and charcoals — while playful accents of blue and orange make the design pop. Although small, this mural brings big impact. It helps ground the shopping centre in its local context and adds a sense of place to a high-traffic area.
