Blue Cottage Daycare - Nature Mural by Jasmine Kroeze in Tauranga
Blue Cottage Daycare - Nature Mural
This mural for The Blue Cottage, an early learning centre in Pāpāmoa, was a special project for me—not only because of its focus on Aotearoa’s native flora and fauna but also because my eldest child attended the centre.
The team was drawn to my nature-inspired designs, having first discovered my work through a cushion collection I created for Bolt of Cloth. They wanted a mural that would transform their car park fence into a welcoming, vibrant feature—something that could be seen from the busy Tara Road and reflect the land’s rich history.
The mural begins with harakeke (flax), paying tribute to the whenua where the centre is built, then transitions into a coastal scene with toi toi and bunny tails, capturing the essence of Pāpāmoa’s nearby dunes and moana.
Bringing this vision to life was an honour—especially knowing it would be enjoyed by the kids and whānau, as well as the wider community.
I’m Jasmine, an artist and all round mess maker, living in Pāpāmoa Beach, NZ.
I paint original artwork and murals. My work is a beautiful chaos of organic shapes and illustrative marks. I’m inspired by colour, form and nature.
My creative career spans 16 years, with experience in fashion and textiles, graphic design and painting. My artwork is a blend of semi-abstract and illustrative styles. Heavily influenced by my background in fashion, my creative process always begins with creating shapes and forms through drawing or paper cut-outs. My signature aesthetic is achieved through layering and use of bold shapes and colour, using a hybrid of digital and manual processes.
Collaboration has been a cornerstone of my creative practice. Along with painting, I also license my artwork for surface patterns. I have had the honour of working with the likes of Kathmandu, Bolt of Cloth, BioPak, Mitre10, Cricut, Nyne, Street Prints, Chorus, Creative Bay of Plenty and more.
