I'm excited to work on more large scale, site specific murals for open minded clients, I find that a large painting with a personal or community touch can change the whole feeling of an area, so I love work that includes something collaborative to embed it in the history of the landscape and the people who live there.

Reviews:

Thom was super easy to work with, we would absolutely recommend Thom as a supplier. Our artwork will be used for one of our large clients that we are hosting a cyber security event for. Thank you so much Thom, great communication, great delivery and artwork. 5/5 stars!

Absolutely stunning: I commissioned Kat to paint a custom portrait of our family home for a loved one's Birthday. Not only did she deliver an amazing piece of Art- which perfectly captured the spirit of the property, she was able to do so at relatively short notice. Her communication is fantastic and she went to extra mile - both going to view the house in person, as well as delivering the finished artwork to me. Thank you Kat for making a special celebration that much more wonderful

Love painting with oils on canvas, drawing, sketching and illustration. In terms of size, the smallest acceptable canvas is 30x40cm, the largest is up to 100cmx90cm. I love painting cityscapes and landscapes, portraits and abstracts. I'm very versatile and experienced, having been doing this for quite a while. I love sending updates and progress pics but I'm happy for you to set the level of communication required. Above all else, love jobs where I can be imaginative and creative to bring ideas life. I will always provide a free quote before starting work, which details everything included, such as materials, labour, delivery cost &c. In terms of budget: terms are a 20% deposit for the initial design (i.e. the drawing, for example on canvas) and I require the 80% outstanding amount to start painting. I calculate the quote based on cost of materials, labour and BAA's cut + tax, so as a rule of thumb, the larger and more complex the project, the higher the cost and vice versa. When your project is complete you can decide whether to have it delivered or pick it up from my studio at Bighouse Arts. An oil painting can literally last for centuries and it represents the best of us, the finest emotions, experiences, memories and feelings in life; it is a beautiful object to treasure for many years to come. By commissioning local, independent artists like me through Book An Artist, you directly support the artist and a wider community of artists too! Contact me for a free quote.

Steven painted the image of my fiance and I at the place we got engaged in central Melbourne. It was great to work with Steve - he helped coach me through my options and choices, and was incredibly timely, responsive and clear in his communication, plus he’s just an all-round lovely guy. Cheers Steve!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the most famous canvas painter?

Throughout history there are many famous painters that define the journey of art. Vincent van Gogh, a prominent figure throughout 1850-1880’s was practically unknown until his death. Claude Monet, followed by Jackson Pollock and then Roy Lichtenstein all left their marks on the industry. Each artist had their own technique and style that is now used and studied.

Where can I buy custom art online?

We recommend using a marketplace such as Book An Artist to hire canvas artists in Canberra as we offer insurance and a list of pre-vetted local artists. Canvas artists can be hired from anywhere, if there is an artist in another city whose work you adore – why not buy a canvas painting and have it shipped? Be sure to incorporate shipping and travel costs into your budget should you enjoy the artwork of an international artist.

What is a painters canvas called?

A Canberra canvas artist may choose to paint their work on a canvas board. These wooden frames are then stretched with linen, polycotton or cotton. Linen is considered to be the more durable of the options, but is more costly. Artists can also paint on wooden canvases varying in size and shape. Canberra Painters & Canvas Artists

Canvas painting is a popular form of art in Canberra. The city is home to a thriving art scene, with many galleries and studios showcasing the work of local artists. Canvas painting is a versatile medium that allows artists to create a wide range of styles and subjects, from traditional landscapes and portraits to abstract and modern paintings.

View an artist's work and contact them to discuss a commission. Custom painting pricing can vary depending on the size, medium, and complexity of the piece.

Canvas painting is a vibrant and exciting part of the art scene in Canberra, and offers both artists and art enthusiasts many opportunities to explore and appreciate this wall art.

Types of Popular Canberra Canvas Prints and Wall Art

Some popular subjects for custom paintings in Canberra include portrait art, these can be of people, a pet portrait, or even objects.

Landscape painting or nature paintings, this can include natural landscapes, such as mountains, forests, oceans (wave paintings), lakes and sunset paintings.

Still life paintings, inanimate objects such as flower art, fruits, and other objects arranged in a specific setting.

Fantasy art, this usually includes but isn't limited to child-friendly artwork. Cartoons, bunnies, unicorns, butterfly paintings or horse paintings can make great additions to a kid's bedroom.

Abstract paintings, the opposite of realism art, abstract art is a style of painting that does not depict a specific subject but rather focuses on color, shape, and form to create abstract art.

Canvas art styles

Artists and their styles have continuously changed throughout history. Classic painting turned to impressionist paintings and industrial art had its peak before even more styles came into the picture.

A game changer for the art community was between the 1930's to 1960's. Mid century modern art was a time of social and cultural change. Artists began to experiment with new forms and break away from class painting and industrial art. This art style was characterised by its simple line art, black and white art, geometric shapes and particularly bold colours.

Creating art is a lot more accessible now which is why there is so much indie art. Independent artists, sketch artists and doodle artists often work outside of the mainstream art world and may have a unique or unconventional approach to their art and sketches.

Canvas painting medium

Canvas paintings can be created using a variety of mediums, each with their own unique characteristics and techniques. The most popular mediums are oil paint and acrylic paint. Oil painting is known for its rich, vibrant colors and the ability to create a wide range of textures and effects. Acrylic paint can create a wide range of effects and can be thinned or thickened to create different textures. Acrylic paintings can also be varnished sooner than oil paintings.

Other medium options include watercolour art, pastel painting and gouache painting. All of which have differing application processes and drying time.

Custom wall art and paintings in Canberra

Canberra wall paintings can be created for a variety of settings, such as homes, offices, or commercial spaces. They can also be created as gifts for special occasions, such as birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries.

Ultimately, where you hang a canvas wall art depends on the size and style of the painting, as well as the room and the purpose of the space. For example, living room wall art should compliment your furniture or act as a statement piece.

When hanging framed art, it's important to consider the lighting in the room and to make sure the framed painting is at eye level to ensure the best viewing experience. It's also important to make sure the painting is securely hung and won't fall.
