About
I am a Hauraki, New Zealand based portrait artist using oils, acrylics, charcoal and graphite. I paint on block canvases or use acid free paper that can be mounted and framed, or unframed for you to make your own choice of mount and frame. I love meeting new people of any culture from any country, and have worked in a variety of health related and legal positions in NZ and other countries. Portrait painting to me allows me to bring out the real person, not just the person they are in every day life. It's an honour for me to paint them. I work from photos. I have been an animator for Steven Spielberg's Tiny Toons, have painted billboards for a beauty products company, designed T-shirts for children and given talks on art to the local college and an art class. I've also won awards for my art. I have loved painting and drawing since I was old enough to pick up a pencil or crayon. Art transports me when I am working, nothing else exists. I have completed a number of commission over the last few years

I am extremely happy when working from either black and white or coloured photos - I have a big interest in history and research, so if I'm presented with a family portrait photo that dates back many years and the client would like me to paint it in either black and white or colour I research the era thoroughly before beginning the painting (I've painted a commission of a family portrait set in early 20s UK, also another black and white photo with a family dating back to Victorian times and 1920s). I much prefer working from good quality photos if possible. I welcome commissions in charcoal and graphite, oils, or acrylics on acid free paper so the client can either have it framed or unframed or on block canvas, or oils, acrylics on block canvas, to whatever size they require

I received a Molly Morpeth award for my tattooed skinhead standing in a brick tunnel with graffiti on the walls,   later the framed painting was bought by a Rotorua Art Gallery,   NZ. My little African boy with an African mask was bought by an Art Gallery in Greeton,   NZ. I also received an award for a VE Day competition,   my artwork is now in Government archives. Mainly my art has been bought by collectors in NZ. Working for Tiny Toons as an animator,   NZ,   my work was shown in the Tiny Toons series on TV
