Superman by Della Vaz in Toronto
Superman
This painting was part of my fourth‑year thesis work and captures David in a moment of quiet childhood exhaustion. He wears his Superman shirt with the kind of pride only a child can hold, still buzzing from play yet already tired in that soft, honest way kids get when they’ve given the day everything they have. The light falling across his head became an important part of the piece. It highlights the warmth of his skin and the gentle slump of his posture, emphasizing both his effort and his innocence. The reds and browns in the background deepen that feeling, grounding him in a world that feels both small and full of possibility. In this portrait, I wanted to hold onto that fleeting moment when a child is caught between energy and surrender, still pushing their little body to do more simply because they can.

Meet the Artist
Toronto, CanadaI am an artist-educator, Ontario Certified Teacher, and professional visual artist based in Oakville, Ontario. My practice centers on large-scale figurative oil painting on custom-toned grounds, exploring themes of portraiture, family bonds, identity, and memory. In 2026, I was honored with the Mississauga Arts Award (MARTY) for Emerging Visual Artist in Traditional Arts, and my work has been recognized internationally through the Global Undergraduate Awards.
What Inspires Me & My Process
My work is deeply rooted in human connection, relational history, and the emotional resonance of shared spaces. I build custom grey grounds for my canvases, layering oil paint to capture candid, unposed portraiture that highlights subtle body language, vulnerability, and intergenerational ties. I am inspired by the quiet strength found in everyday mentorship, family dynamics, and the personal stories that connect us all.
