Title: Locals
Size: 20' x 19'
For: Meet the Street Mural Festival
Where: Red Deer, Alberta
Medium: Latex & Spray
Year: 2021
‘Locals’ depicts butterfly and moth species found in Alberta. This includes varieties such as the Monarch, Swallowtail, Red Admiral, Fire Rim Tortoise Shell, Painted Lady, Callippe Fritillary, Christina Sulphur, Common Wood Nymph and the Uncas Skipper.
The design was created for Meet the Street Mural Festival in Red Deer Alberta. The environmental theme of this piece was influenced by surrounding murals done in the same theme and per the wall owners request for a design that was nature based.
‘Locals’ was a venture in replicating the energy found in hand brushed strokes across a large scale while teaming it with the realistic representations of moths and butterflies. Bringing in a lively aesthetic infused with a collage like feel, bright colours, movement to capture the energy of spring and summer months spent outdoors.
