Little Nemo in Slumberland by Turtle Child in Cincinnati
Little Nemo in Slumberland
Winsor McCay’s famous comic strip, Little Nemo in Slumberland, now adorns a downtown Cincinnati building and is a 2016 addition to the Cincinnati Masters Mural Series. McCay was a well-known American cartoonist and animator and in 1891 he moved to Cincinnati, where he spent nine years making posters and other advertisements for local businesses and museums –linking his unique style to Cincinnati.
I worked as an apprentice on this project.
Meet the Artist
Cincinnati, United StatesMy name is Tamia, aka "Turtle Child". (artist name) I'm an illustrator and muralist based in the beautiful Cincinnati,OH. I've been an artist for as long as I can remember, and took up mural painting in 2014 and have loved doing it for 10 years. I enjoy seeing art come to life on many different surfaces throughout my city. The are so many stories to tell, and I want to see them all!
I frequently use the chrysanthemum flower as a motif for the heart. This is my way of showcasing the many forms the heart can take in the face of human emotions. Emphasizing its fragility and constant need for care. I rely on storytelling through imaginative illustrations and character designs to further expand on this idea. By taking this approach, I try to reassure others they are not alone in their pursuit for emotional peace.
