Hidden Stories Play Structure
The Hidden Stories Play Structure was meticulously designed and fabricated for the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, blending creativity, craftsmanship, and functionality. This unique structure was envisioned as an interactive centerpiece for the museum's outdoor area, offering children and families a playful yet immersive connection to nature. The design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment, mirroring the museum's mission to celebrate the natural world. Fabricated in Los Angeles, the structure began with a sturdy steel framework, ensuring durability and safety for its active users. Over this core, layers of sculpted epoxy were carefully applied and textured to replicate the organic forms and intricate details of real trees. The craftsmanship focused on mimicking the twists, grooves, and natural imperfections found in bark, lending the play structure an authentic, lifelike quality. Once sculpted, the epoxy was painted using advanced techniques to achieve a hyper-realistic finish. Earthy tones and subtle highlights brought the “trees” to life, making them almost indistinguishable from their natural counterparts. The colors were chosen to harmonize with the museum's outdoor environment, further enhancing the structure’s ability to blend with its surroundings. The Hidden Stories Play Structure is more than a playground it's a gateway to imagination, nature, and discovery, embodying both artistic innovation and educational purpose.
