Angkor Wat Reimagined
I was commissioned to create an architectural sculpture inspired by Angkor Wat, the iconic Temple City in Cambodia. This monumental piece measures an impressive six feet wide, six feet deep, fourteen feet tall, capturing the grandeur and intricate detail of the original structure. The sculpture was crafted using a carved cement technique, a meticulous and hands-on process that brings architectural visions to life. It began with the construction of a sturdy steel framework, which provided the foundational support for the piece. Over this, a steel lathe was installed to create the base shape, serving as the canvas for the cement application. Multiple layers of cement were carefully applied, each one adding depth and strength to the structure. Once the cement was set, the intricate carving process began. Every detail, from the temple's ornate spires to its intricate reliefs, was meticulously sculpted by hand to replicate the artistry and craftsmanship of Angkor Wat. The result is a breathtaking tribute to one of the world's most celebrated architectural wonders, blending modern techniques with traditional aesthetics. This sculpture not only highlights the rich cultural heritage of Cambodia but also demonstrates the versatility and creativity of working with carved cement.
