William Perkin - historical mural for Brent Council by Lespleen in London

William Perkin - historical mural for Brent Council

Sir William Henry Perkin was a British chemist and entrepreneur best known for his discovery of the first synthetic organic dye, mauveine, made from aniline. Butler's green (small open space at the centre of Sudbury town, London) where this mural was made was his land. The church next to the park was his residency. Nowadays both of his owned land are given to the community to enjoy. Friends of Barham library, a local community library, won a grant with #brentcouncil #lovewhereyoulive so that now they can remind to people the local history and so they commission me this work.
