Boychild FC by Samuel Gethi in Nairobi
Boychild FC
Boychild FC is an ongoing satirical art and storytelling project that explores modern masculinity, economic survival, internet culture, and the everyday realities of the Kenyan "boychild." Through illustration, parody, fictional institutions, mock campaigns, and world-building, the project turns familiar struggles into humor while highlighting the absurdity of contemporary life.
What started as a creative outlet evolved into a growing visual universe populated by fictional organizations, currencies, government programs, sporting clubs, and cultural symbols that reflect the hopes, frustrations, and coping mechanisms of an entire generation. Boychild FC borrows heavily from football culture, political branding, social media trends, and everyday Kenyan experiences to create a world that feels both ridiculous and strangely believable.
The project combines editorial illustration, graphic design, satire, animation, and visual storytelling. Each card is designed to work on multiple levels: as a joke, as a piece of art, and as a commentary on issues such as unemployment, ambition, relationships, identity, and the pursuit of meaning in an increasingly chaotic world.
Visually, Boychild FC draws inspiration from football club branding, currency design, propaganda posters, government documents, internet memes, and contemporary African graphic culture. The result is a distinctive aesthetic that blends official-looking design systems with playful irreverence and social commentary.
At its core, Boychild FC is less about complaining and more about finding humor in shared experiences. It celebrates resilience, creativity, and the ability to laugh at situations that might otherwise feel overwhelming.

Meet the Artist
Nairobi, KenyaI'm a Kenyan illustrator, animator, and visual storyteller working at the intersection of satire, culture, and design. My work is driven by a simple belief: the most memorable ideas are the ones that make people laugh, think, or do both at the same time.
Professionally, my background spans data systems, operations, and visual communication, which gives me a unique approach to creative work. I enjoy taking complex concepts—whether they're social issues, business ideas, cultural observations, or technical subjects—and translating them into visuals that are clear, engaging, and full of personality.
My creative practice includes illustration, character design, editorial and satirical artwork, animation, motion graphics, branded content, infographics, and narrative-driven visual storytelling. I'm particularly drawn to projects that blend humor with insight, whether that's creating original characters, designing culturally inspired artwork, developing animated content, or crafting visuals that spark conversation.
Much of my inspiration comes from everyday life in Kenya, internet culture, gaming, technology, absurd humor, and the strange ways people navigate modern society. I love observing small details, exaggerating them through art, and turning them into stories that feel both familiar and unexpected.
When I'm not illustrating, I'm usually developing personal projects under my creative brand, Kesi Baadaye, exploring experimental animation concepts, creating satirical visual series, or finding new ways to combine art, storytelling, and technology.
Clients work with me because I bring both creativity and structure to every project. I'm comfortable moving from rough concepts and sketches all the way to polished final artwork, and I care deeply about creating visuals that are not only aesthetically strong but also communicate effectively.
Whether you need custom illustrations, character designs, editorial artwork, animated content, infographics, branded visuals, or creative storytelling, I aim to create work that leaves a lasting impression—and maybe earns a laugh along the way.
