So…I wanted to make a custom painting for my brother of a big, giant brain. Brain art. I found the website, “Book An Artist “. On the website are many talented artists displaying their wares. How to choose the perfect person to create a masterpiece?? Firstly, I looked for the artwork that seemed most appealing to me. Then I read the bio of the artist and researched their portfolio. The artist I found was Masha. We spoke on the phone and I got that vibe. She was completely professional and personal. Time showed me what a lovely person she was. Not only did I like the vibe and her artistry I had viewed, it turned out she had done Brain Art in the past and enjoys doing it. She had just gotten back from a trip to Portugal, and I was on my way there. This has no relevance for creating a painting for me, it just added to the overall feeling that I picked the right artist. And boy oh boy, did I ever. She began by explaining her process. 1) Discovery Session 2) Concept Development 3) Approval and Canvas Preparation 4) Painting Process 5) Timeline 6) Investment/Cost She learned about my brother and what I wished to portray through the painting. She created several pencil sketches. I originally found them too abstract for my brother and wanted them more brain looking. She went back and created several more pencil sketches for my viewing and approval. And there it was… the sketch that would eventually become a painted masterpiece. She had also shown me four different placements for script, as the painting included four words. She explained that there were different price points regarding the paints and canvas. You could choose the quality/price of materials, but she also made sure to educate me on how that reflected for the finished piece and its longevity. During the entire painting phase, she regularly checked in with me to view the development and provide feedback. Her collaborative approach was to ensure the final piece exceeded my expectations. Well let me tell you… it worked! A testament to her process. Unfortunately, I had to put her on a deadline, as I was leaving for Portugal in a few weeks. She ensured me that she could complete it on time without compromising quality or creativity, and I could sense the sincerity. I got to know Masha professionally through our many video calls, phone calls and texts. Truly a lovely person. I picked the right person in being and in artistry. When we met in person for the transfer of the Artwork, she was just as gracious and kind. It’s a large piece, 30” by 30”. So bright, so vivid, so colourful. A giant human brain with decorations and meaning that make you see many things every time you view it. The colours, regions and designs. I truly admire it. It has the words, “The Big Giant Brain”, in the lower left hand corner with a nice font that is artistic yet easily legible. I would proudly display this painting on my wall. It’s stunning! But it was created as a gift and given as a gift. My brother loves it. To have a custom painting with such personal meaning that is top tier done. That is a beautiful gift. I have Masha to thank for making this vision such a beautiful reality. Above and beyond the painting, she also created a video with captions explaining all the different regions in the Brain she painted, and their meaning and function. There is a lot of content in our brains. This was simply one more consideration of Masha’s that elevated my experience with the artist. My overall experience with this artist leaves nothing to be desired. I would not hesitate to use her again, not just as a painter, but to explore the many different artistic mediums she thrives in.
