About
Kilia Llano is a multidisciplinary artist from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her realistic/impressionist style is committed to capturing human emotions and their environment, the social world in which they develop, but also the relationship with nature based on our humanity, and how our personal experiences transform the way we relate and see the world around us. Kilia got her BFA (Fine Arts and Illustration) at Chavón School of Design (DR) and Parsons School of design (NY), among other minor studies at Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona (Ancient Art History) and UNIBE university (Art Education), where she developed her interest in different painting and drawing techniques, to be able to portrait the imaginary and real world that she represents in her paintings, murals and illustrations. A visionary artist, Kilia pushes her knowledge of traditional techniques and convert it in a unique, modern, and strong style, and is also committed to teach the future generation of artists. Her work has been exhibited in many places in the DR but also outside (USA, Colombia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spain and Italy) and is present in prestigious, public and private collections at the DR, and small collections in the USA.

Qualifications/Positions:

Visual artist with more than 25 years of experience. I'm also an art educator mostly for teens,   I've been art department coordinator,   Art director for a magazine,   full time illustrator for a national newspaper,   Artistic Director of the first public art program of the Dominican Government in 2022,   also artistic director for a contest organized by the European Community,   a long career in murals with more than 80 murals done in different countries.

1992 Full scholarship to complete my BFA at Parsons School of Design (NY)
1994 10 best illustrations form the senior department of illustration from 1994 at Parsons (NY)
2017 One of the 5 winners from 2017 edition of The Best Cultural Projects,   Ministry of Culture,   DR
2018 Artist in residence for Graniti Murales,   Sicily,   Italy
2021 Artist in Residence for the Urban Field Stations Art Residency,   USA Forest Service
2022 Finalist for the Tangelo Park Project Contest,   Orlando,   Florida
2022 Artist in Residence (2nd year) for the Urban Field Stations Art Residency,   USA Forest Service
