"Transformation"
The mural I just finished for my friends @incartrd for their lab area in Santo Domingo. I remember the first time I met the hospital and the tireless work they do with so many low-income cancer patients who cannot afford adequate treatment. A hospital that provides medical and emotional support for many for free. There I met Mia @lasocurrenciasdemia_ , a brave young woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer a while ago that thanks to the hospital, was able to make her transformation from a caterpillar to a butterfly????
Thanks to the @caminantesrd foundation (a foundation that has done so much for many Dominicans, and to which I am attached by great affection and friendship since its inception) for making this mural a reality, a mural so important to me for what it represents, thanks also to the marketing and medical staff of the hospital, and hopefully with this mural I can send a message of joy, optimism and encouragement to all those patients who are treated by those friendly hands in the center.
Kilia Llano is a multidisciplinary artist from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her realistic/impressionist style is committed to capturing human emotions and their environment, the social world in which they develop, but also the relationship with nature based on our humanity, and how our personal experiences transform the way we relate and see the world around us. Kilia got her BFA (Fine Arts and Illustration) at Chavón School of Design (DR) and Parsons School of design (NY), among other minor studies at Universidad Autónoma of Barcelona (Ancient Art History) and UNIBE university (Art Education), where she developed her interest in different painting and drawing techniques, to be able to portrait the imaginary and real world that she represents in her paintings, murals and illustrations. A visionary artist, Kilia pushes her knowledge of traditional techniques and convert it in a unique, modern, and strong style, and is also committed to teach the future generation of artists. Her work has been exhibited in many places in the DR but also outside (USA, Colombia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spain and Italy) and is present in prestigious, public and private collections at the DR, and small collections in the USA.
