Valley of Stars by Alexis Steyn in Denmark

30”x 36” Oil, Cold Wax medium and Mixed media on gallery wrapped canvas. ‘Valley of Stars’ is an abstract representation of stars as they move through the galaxy, slowly drifting through space and time. Inspired by the turquoise tones of the ocean and summer fruits such as watermelon, pomegranate and strawberries, this painting developed into an exploration of how contrasting colours and textures can work together to create a dynamic piece. Cold wax medium has been combined with the turquoise adding texture and volume to the artwork. Despite the contrast between the matt finish of the cold wax and the glossy burgundy, there is balance overall. Tying this all together is the shimmer of gold alcohol ink which also adds another layer of meaning to the piece. The golden drops represent a flurry of stars scattered through the milky way. As distant as they are, their magic is felt every night as they light up the night sky.
