Traditions of Apulia by Simona in London

This mural, created with the patronage of the Council of Sava (Taranto, Apulia), is part of a project to revitalise the local market area through art. The concept celebrates the traditions, crafts, and flavours of Sava and Puglia in a playful, modern way. At its centre is a life-sized apecar, from which a wave of wine flows, carrying traditional foods, handmade crafts, and symbolic elements like tarallini, octopus, olive leaves, and luminarie. It highlights local trades such as grape and olive harvesting, handmade mozzarella, and the art of making orecchiette by hand. On the side, a collage of typical food and wine elements from the region: panzerotti, frise, puccia, wine, etc., also recalling the use of the surrounding area, dedicated to the weekly market visited by locals, tourists, and people from neighbouring towns. Existing doors and windows are utilised creatively, serving as “views” into the countryside and unifying the building’s various façades.
