Taste of Apulia
This mural, created with the patronage of the Council of Sava (Taranto, Apulia), is part of a project to revitalise the local market area through art.
The concept celebrates the traditions, crafts, and flavours of Sava and Puglia in a playful, modern way. At its centre is a life-sized apecar, from which a wave of wine flows, carrying traditional foods, handmade crafts, and symbolic elements like tarallini, octopus, olive leaves, and luminarie.
It highlights local trades such as grape and olive harvesting, handmade mozzarella, and the art of making orecchiette by hand.
Existing doors and windows are used creatively, becoming “views” into the countryside and unifying the building’s various façades. One side features a collage of local foods, referencing the lively weekly market, while another is adorned with caper flower motifs – chosen for their beauty, fragrance, and cultural significance.
The mural is designed to be interactive and photogenic, turning the space into a visual celebration of Sava’s heritage and identity.
