Thumbelina by Laureneling.illustrations in Leeds

This book cover depicts the story of Thumbelina through mixed media approaches and abstract imagery. I used Cyanotype to illustrate the fairies and type and ceramics to create the birds and flower. The flower depicts Thumbelina’s beginning in life and reminds us how her life is stripped away from her with the broken petals. The birds remind us of her friend the magpie who helps her gain the life she desires.
