The Mortal Gardener
Another personal piece! Watercolour and acrylic on canvas. I always thought it a pity that most artwork depicts the Grim Reaper as a frightening, dark entity; perhaps it simply wants to guide those who’ve passed on safely to wherever the next place after life is, if there is one. What’s more , is all the human depictions of such figures were always more caucasian in appearance, so i thought it would be a fresh change to depict the Grim Reaper as a different figure. Someone with a slightly indigenous feel- who’s been here longer than anyone can remember, who looks vaguely familiar but also completely new- and as someone bright, marking the start of a new journey , like toward the end of spring when all the flowers are in full bloom

Meet the Artist
Jakarta, IndonesiaHi! I’m Lou, and i adore painting the intimate connections between humans and our world in vibrant colours, to put some extra in the perceived ordinary. Acrylics, ink and graphite are among my favourite mediums to inspire others to see the world through a different lens; one more fantastical and bright. I especially love painting portraits to truly capture the spirit of an individual, or theming them around something representing the subject. The sheer individuality of every person, humanity’s interpersonal relationships and relationship with our culture and environment is what inspires me. I’ve been able to exhibit my works at Visual Art Centre Singapore, Angelico Art Exhibit and at the Space Symposium at Colorado , as well as some online exhibits as a prize winner in the Bowseat Art Contest and Live On Festival. Such opportunities also came by from winning competitions like first place in the Singapore National Visual Art Contest, and having sold several personal pieces to private collectors.
