In the heart of Ecuador’s lush, permaculture-driven landscapes, where the rhythms of nature intertwine with the introspective calm of a yoga retreat center, I created this mural as a tribute to the living symphony of tropical flora. Painted with acrylic on a weathered metal surface, the work blurs the boundaries between shadow and substance, illusion and reality, capturing the ephemeral dance of sunlight filtering through leaves, ferns, and blossoms. Inspired by the permaculture ethos of sustainability and symbiosis, the mural features oversized elephant ear leaves in deep emerald tones, delicate yellow wildflowers reaching toward the light, and feathery ferns that evoke the understory’s quiet resilience. These elements are rendered not as static forms, but as vibrant shadows—painted with translucent layers to mimic the sun’s playful projections on the retreat’s walls.
