Happy Teachers by Monica in Murwillumbah
Happy Teachers
This mural is a collective gesture of presence, strength, and belonging. Formed by the handprints of teachers from different countries, it embodies the spirit of unity within a diverse community. Each handprint is both personal and universal — a mark of individuality that joins others to create something larger than itself.
At the heart of the composition, the forms recall the image of a lion — a symbol of courage, resilience, and dignity. For a school where children with special needs often face a society that struggles to see and recognize them, the lion stands as a reminder of their inner strength and the power of their voices.
The date 07.23 anchors the mural in time, transforming a moment into memory, while the vibrant colors and international patterns affirm that this is a space shaped by many cultures, yet bound by shared care. The joyful splashes of paint — uncontained and imperfect — reflect the beauty of difference, of expression that cannot and should not be confined.
This mural is not only a work of art but a declaration: a symbol of resilience, inclusion, and hope. It celebrates the children and the community that surrounds them, affirming that every mark matters, every hand belongs, and every child deserves to be seen as strong, whole, and extraordinary.
Meet the Artist
Murwillumbah, AustraliaI’m from Italy based temporarily in Murwillumbah. I’ve been painting since I was 14 yo and exposed my artworks in Cagliari, Milan and Seattle. As a human being, art is not an element that can be expressed with only one medium, for this I started my career as an architect, kept painting with oils, acrylics experimenting different surfaces. Music, photography, yoga and dance are all part of the scene. Recently I’ve spent one year travelling around all South America where I’ve learnt how to tattoo, from the only tattoo artist in the mystical Easter Island, the Polynesian land of Moai. From that moment I totally fell in love with the HandPoke technique. Our skin is the biggest organ in our body and my philosophy is to dedicate to each person a very unique and personalised design.
I’m also a certified yoga teacher and herbalist, without any doubt my passion is to listen to your deepest voice and help you bringing it up with some of the tools I’ve learned on my journey.
