Steven painted the image of my fiance and I at the place we got engaged in central Melbourne. It was great to work with Steve - he helped coach me through my options and choices, and was incredibly timely, responsive and clear in his communication, plus he’s just an all-round lovely guy. Cheers Steve!

From start to finish Steve was awesome to work with. Super responsive and communicative, open to ideas and collaboration, flexible with timing and budget, and genuinely invested in the project. Steve kept me informed and involved throughout the whole process, and as someone new to the process, I really appreciated this. Not to mention he did an INCREDIBLE job on my commission! Super happy all round, thanks Steve!!

Steven helped my partner and I realise a portrait of a recent visit to Italy and a beautiful walk we did in Cinque Terra. Known as the "Walk of Love", Steven dived head long into the project. He was very attentive to what we wanted, responded quickly to any of our requests and importantly provided regular updates. We were extremely pleased with the final artwork which is now hanging proudly in our house. Steven was a real pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend him

Well where do I start! Steven was an absolute pleasure to work with. He is not only passionate with his love of art, but he also has that great customer service we seem to lack these days. Throughout the whole process, Steven kept me updated and sent me progress pictures. I asked Steven to create a piece of art which I found from the internet, but I wanted him to put a bit of his style into it, to make it unique, and he definitely delivered. He even went the extra mile to take my artwork to Fitzroy Stretches to have it framed. They too did an amazing job. I love my artwork so much. It’s looks even better than I had originally imagined. The texture looking at it from front and side profile is sensational. I literally just picked it up and can’t wait for hubby to get home to help me hang it on my wall. Thank you so much Steven, I couldn’t be happier, and I will look forward to getting another piece done in the future. 😃😃😃

Steven was absolutely fantastic to deal with through the whole commissioning process. He really listened to what we were after, and went above and beyond to make sure it was perfect. We commissioned this piece as a gift for our mum's 70th birthday and she was absolutely thrilled with his work. We would highly recommend him to anyone considering a commission piece. Thanks Steven!

I was in search of a local Melbourne artist who could capture my husbands late Grandmother's farm house as a gift for his mum for Christmas. I had never heard of "Book an Artist" and scrolled various artists and their work when i came across Steven's profile. He responded to my inquiry straight away and gave me confidence that he was the right person for the job. With only a few pictures, he was able to put together a piece of art that will be held close to the family's heart forever. The detail in the old farm house was impeccable and he was even able to add his Grandmother to the painting capturing her loving smile and nature. Thank-you so much for your wonderful artwork Steve, the family really adore the painting.

Steven was fantastic to work with. He was able to replicate an image I was after, and willing to make changes as requested. His communication during the process was excellent. I would highly recommend Steven, and will certainly be ordering any future commission artwork through him.

About
Hello, my name is Steven. I am a visual artist based at Bighouse Arts Studio in North Coburg, Melbourne. I have many years experience and training in visual art design, painting and drawing. I have a visual art & design degree and other arts qualifications, and experience doing a solo exhibition of original paintings at Brunswick Street Gallery, Fitzroy. I also have more than a decade of experience making and exhibiting artwork in various locations across Melbourne, Victoria and New South Wales. I am a Bluethumb Art Prize and Greenway Art Prize Finalist. I'll engage with you throughout the design process to bring your ideas to life, to a fully complete and unique piece. I can provide you with updates along the way - as many as you like! - as the work progresses, and usually respond to queries straightaway, or within the hour. To start, you just need to reach out with an idea of what you would like: I'll take care of everything else. I have created lots of artwork over the years, especially paintings. I am deeply committed to my craft. I love working to make unique, beautiful artwork which may be treasured for years to come. Personally, I love how art attempts the impossible in its attempts to express emotion and memory, the most true things in life. I hope to work with you soon. -Steve

Pick me for these projects! :-

Love painting with oils on canvas, drawing, sketching and illustration. In terms of size, the smallest acceptable canvas is 30x40cm, the largest is up to 100cmx90cm. I love painting cityscapes and landscapes, portraits and abstracts. I'm very versatile and experienced, having been doing this for quite a while. I love sending updates and progress pics but I'm happy for you to set the level of communication required. Above all else, love jobs where I can be imaginative and creative to bring ideas life. I will always provide a free quote before starting work, which details everything included, such as materials, labour, delivery cost &c. In terms of budget: terms are a 20% deposit for the initial design (i.e. the drawing, for example on canvas) and I require the 80% outstanding amount to start painting. I calculate the quote based on cost of materials, labour and BAA's cut + tax, so as a rule of thumb, the larger and more complex the project, the higher the cost and vice versa. When your project is complete you can decide whether to have it delivered or pick it up from my studio at Bighouse Arts. An oil painting can literally last for centuries and it represents the best of us, the finest emotions, experiences, memories and feelings in life; it is a beautiful object to treasure for many years to come. By commissioning local, independent artists like me through Book An Artist, you directly support the artist and a wider community of artists too! Contact me for a free quote.

I'll sit these ones out :-

I'm open to a diverse range of commission work,   and I just need the time it takes to complete a project to your satisfaction. After all,   as the saying goes,   you can't rush art! Oil painting can be a slow process,   but from experience it is well worth the wait. In any event,   feel free to contact me to discuss your project idea.
