Chao Mami Restaurant by Chillivia Creative in Vancouver
Chao Mami Restaurant
Located at Chao Mami, a vibrant Vietnamese restaurant nestled within Granville Train Station, this mural is a heartfelt tribute to the beating heart of the Chao Mami family: the mom who serves as the head cook. The kids, depicted as constantly running after their mom, symbolize the way we all seek her love and nourishment, a theme that resonates with families everywhere. The mural is designed to evoke a sense of warmth and familiarity.
The dynamic, yet structured, design flows seamlessly from wall to wall, guiding the viewer's eye through the space and encouraging engagement. With intricate details throughout, diners will find new elements to discover with each visit. The comic book-inspired style, bursting with vibrant colors and lush green foliage, adds a sense of warmth to the surrounding space. In contrast to the cold, sterile environment of Granville Train Station, this mural creates a welcoming and lively atmosphere that invites customers to relax and immerse themselves in the experience.
After completing my graphic design diploma in 2015, I began to develop my illustration skills
and style. I quickly acquired a love for painting, which in turn, eventually allowed her to go large scale and design public murals and art for commercial projects. I am a visual artist who works across a multitude of mediums such as, murals, paintings and digital illustrations. I take inspiration from youth iconography, mythic narrative, pop art, and the styles and objects of a range of subcultures—including tattooing, still life, and romanticism. I incorporate graphic illustrative components, specific colour palettes and intricate line work to convey a feeling of cultural nostalgia and relevance. The versatility of my style shines through in its ability to transition between highly detailed compositions and more minimalistic designs, adapting to the demands of each unique project. Notably, my designs are crafted to resonate with a broad audience, striking a balance that makes it suitable for all age groups.
