A Portrait of Dargaville is a site-responsive commission developed in close collaboration with the client, shaped through an extended process of dialogue, research, and visual exploration. The work reflects both the specific character of Dargaville, New Zealand, and the personal connections that informed its creation.
Rather than presenting a literal depiction, the piece brings together fragments of landscape, memory, and local identity through a layered composition of painted passages, drawn elements, and collage. Materials including photographic references, paper, and metallic accents are integrated into the surface, creating a sense of depth that shifts between image and object.
The composition evolved through a series of preparatory sketches and studies, allowing key motifs, color relationships, and structural rhythms to emerge gradually. This iterative process ensured that the final work responded not only to the physical space it inhabits, but also to the more intangible qualities of place—atmosphere, history, and lived experience.
Executed on canvas using archival materials, the finished piece was designed for longevity while retaining a sense of immediacy and material presence. Shipped and installed internationally, it stands as both a personal commission and a broader reflection on how place can be translated into visual form.

Montreal, CanadaI’m a Montreal and New York-based visual artist working across painting, collage, and sculptural wall pieces. My practice moves between abstraction and figuration, often layering found imagery, drawn elements, and painted structure into surfaces that feel both constructed and alive.
I’ve been working professionally for over twenty years, with projects ranging from private commissions to public art installations. My approach is collaborative—I work closely with clients to develop pieces that respond to a space, a story, or a particular energy they want to live with.
Alongside larger works, I offer smaller commissions, including portrait drawings and custom paintings, as a way of keeping the work immediate and accessible. Whether the project is intimate or architectural, the goal is the same: to make something that holds attention over time.
I’m particularly interested in work that sits between image and object—where painting starts to take on a physical presence, and where materials carry their own history into the final piece.
