About
My name is Enrico Maria Cartei and I was born in Florence, Italy, in 1968. I’m a visual artist, who lives and works in Amsterdam.? I graduated from art school in Florence, the city which has greatly influenced me and motivated to pursue the desire to become an artist.?? For me making art means creating something that doesn't come just from an idea or a thought, but it is also guided by a feeling, an emotional state, mainly to satisfy the desire to represent my inner vision, rather than the reality that surrounds me.?? My process of creation is a compulsive and instinctive act, during which I invent images that fundamentally are created by themselves. I usually start painting directly on the canvas, improvising, playing with lines and spots of colours. Gradually I detect a shape, a shadow, while finally I have a vision and I start developing it. When I’m painting I reach a sort of meditative state, which is what most defines my style. There is a lot of symbolism and spirituality inside my paintings. What matters to me is to excite our minds in finding another way of thinking, moving our deepest self to the surface of our been. This means to become more real, aligned with the divine part of ourselves, towards pure intentions, with the purpose of a collective evolution. ? My works have been exhibited in Italy, Brazil and Netherlands, where I continue to promote my work, collaborating with galleries and local artists.
