About
I photograph and paint, and strive to depict emotional states with symbolic color, orchestrated composition and Caravaggio-inspired filmic action. I worked for years at NBC as Network News Graphic Artist and Photographer, and as still photographer on several major films, including the hip-hop classic "Breakin'". I won the Grand Prize in the Nikon Photo Contest International, as well as a Third Prize and several Honorable Mentions, Best of Show at the State Museum of Pennsylvania's annual all-media show "Art of the State," and more than a dozen Best in Shows, First prizes and Purchase Prizes from Museums and art competitions. I founded and ran a street level NYC photography gallery for female photographers, with 40 feet of window on 5th Avenue at 47th Street, naming the gallery Fotoforum, after the original in Frankfurt, Germany. I curated "Make it Big," a reunion art show for my Harvard classmates, "Relief," at Broadway Gallery in NYC, and "Art of the Garden," a library exhibition of 100 artists. My photographs have recently been exhibited in solo shows at Aras An Chontae in Roscommon, Ballina Arts Centre and Museum of Country Life's Courtyard Gallery, both in County Mayo, Ireland and in group shows at the Irish Embassy Berlin and at Boyle Arts Festival in County Roscommon. I self-published a book, "Irish Isles" of my photos of Irish landscapes, as well as a catalogue for the Berlin Embassy show, "Moment," pairing my photos with haiku written by Irish poet Gabriel Rosenstock. I have won awards in the 19th, 18th and 17th B&W Spider Awards. I was published online in May 2022 in Edge of Humanity Magazine with a series of street photography. I have won awards in the 17th, 16th and 15th International Color Awards, and published in the WINNERS BOOK and Winners Video Series. (Third Prize in Photojournalism with "Belfast Piece,") All About Photo Magazine included my work in the 22nd Edition and on their website with a full portfolio, as a winner in the 2021 "STREETS" competition. In 2021, my images of the Middle East were published in the winter edition of a Californian art magazine, "Catamaran," to resonate with a short story "Sunbirds," about Palestine. . I had the "In The Frame" page of "Totally Dublin" in May 2021, highlighting my website. Two of the 62 images chosen blind for "Street Photography Around the World" at the Los Angeles Center For Photography, by the editor of "Street Photography" magazine, were mine.
