About
Byron purposefully use colours in a counter intuitive way, which often disguises their subject matter in abstract forms. The artist duo uses a variety of mediums but are highly skilled with spray-paint and prefer to work free hand, avoiding stencils and excessive use of tape. By combining their techniques with vivid colours and detailed, illustrative line work their artwork is very recognizable. The patterns in their artworks experiment with how certain colours interact with each other, and the eye. A zebra looks grey from a distance as the black and white stripes blur and mix. Many colours can appear different when placed next to complimentary (or not so complimentary) colours for example. It is an experiment to capture the viewer’s imagination, while bringing forms out of the abstract colours, and discovering what tricks the eye. The colour application and pattern work represent diversity of cultures, stereotypes, paradigms, depicting all humans equally vibrant though the Byron multi coloured lens. Combining all these elements also symbolizes the diversity, and complexity, of today’s society. They worked together as Unity Murals in South Africa from 2010 to 2019 successfully as full-time artists. At the end of 2019 they moved to The Netherlands to grow and develop their art further. Inspirations: Fauvism, cubism, colour interpretation, graffiti lettering, traditional spray-painting techniques graphic and illustrative linework. The shapes are often inspired by the arm and body movements used to create graffiti lettering, which is used to help emphasizing flow and form. Location: The Netherlands
