Dia Lee

I am a freelancing illustrator / graphic designer based in New Zealand who is passionate about imagining new world and translate it through my drawings. My name is Dia and I studied Fine Arts at Auckland of University. I also am currently working as a Art & Design teacher at secondary school and I am also a mum of two girls. Although my interest goes across all creative field, I am most interested and good at creating children’a book illustrations. I get my inspirations while I read books, do some gardening and walking with my girls. As I observe how my daughters are crawling, their behaviours and the way they talk and play with each other in the awe of New Zealand great nature, I imagine animals and plants playing with them. As you can see it from my portfolio and attached images, my illustrations has a sense of friendliness, gentleness and inocence. It comes from a combination of soft color palette I choose and curvy lines I use in my work. I’ve been participating and creating children’s book illustration at UpWork from 2019 and so far I have made 8 children’s books. Most of them had animals as a main character (bat, weasle, koala, bunny, etc) and often my clients transferred my illustrations into simple animations. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Procreate to create my work. I am very familiar with these programs and I can also make simple gif animations by using these tools.
