This mural was painted on the exterior wall of a school library. I used Resene lumbersider paint and brushes and completed the artwork, part-time during the rainy season, over six weeks.
The brief was to include something to commemorate a beloved teacher who had passed away and whose classroom was now being turned into a library for the school. I was given free reign to come up with a concept and design of the artwork and I decided to use oversized books as climbing blocks for various favourite book characters, encapsulating the energy and wonder of the young children around me at the school.
A great deal of the project required sign writing as each book required an appropriate title and the walls were filled with characters playing, hiding and reading.
The intent of the concept was to draw children into the mural by looking, searching and recognizing their favourite characters and creating conversations through the whimsy of the mural. The beloved teacher got made over into a character, sitting atop a book and reading to a couple of other book characters playing around her.
This was a very satisfying project as the children and staff of the school continually watched the project evolve and I would often find myself surrounded by a group of children just enjoying watching the process during their break times.

Auckland, New ZealandMy art is an expression of my journey through this life. It’s the visual interpretation of the stories from the people I meet, a journey through the knowledge we share and the themes and messages we are trying to convey. I work across a multitude of mediums and a range of environments.
I incorporate symbolism and realism, abstract and impressions, along with a unique blend of vibrant colours and patterns.
I have honed my skills with over 20 years of experience in painting, along with over a decade of photography practise. Over the past 10 years I have refined my digital art skills, and all the while
I am in a constant state of learning and improving, changing and being fluid in my style and way of expressing the stories of those whom I work with to create unique pieces of art.
I have gained experience in using spray-paint and airbrush as well as being an expert at using a brush and pots of paint. ?
I would describe my art as emitting fun, joy, whimsy, peace, tranquillity and character, and I am comfortable painting on canvas, walls, wood or transportable panels.
