Whenua
WHS had created houses for their sports activities, and each house was assigned a colour and 'landscape'. I was approached to create the school logo, as well as some artworks to brighten up some dark corner as part of the renovations ongoing at the school. I suggested artworks to represent each house and to design a mascot for each house. The suggestion was welcomed and thus this project was born - 6 houses with 6 mascots and 6 panels to be affixed onto the exterior of the school hall, to represent the various houses. Rangi, Waitakere, Tiriwa, Whenua, Manutewhau and Waitemata.
Rangi represented by the colour Orange and the sky, got the New Zealand Falcon as it's mascot.
Waitakere, represented by the colour Grey and the mountains, got the Kokako. Tiriwa, the forest, with the colour green, received the Tuatara as it's representative whilst Whenua in yellow, represented the fields and as such got a Ram as it's mascot. Waitemata, signifying the oceans and in blue, got the Hector's dolphin.
The mascots were carefully chosen to best represent the landscapes in which they would naturally be found, and each design received a bit of a Pacifica flair with patterns and bold lines tracing each design.
