Urban Monster Parade by KATER in Portland
Urban Monster Parade
A riot of fantastical creatures marches across a Portland building, their exaggerated features and wild expressions creating a visual spectacle. This Mural/Graffiti piece, tagged for its energetic style, uses bold outlines, electric blues, and greens to animate the wall. The layered spray paint and cartoonish forms suggest a chaotic, playful world lurking just beneath the city’s surface. The mural invites viewers to celebrate imagination and the unexpected in urban life.
Meet the Artist
Portland, United StatesI’m a Portland-based muralist and visual artist with a love of bold colors, surreal landscapes, and bringing a little bit of the unexpected into everyday spaces. I have been painting since 2010, and I’ve created murals across the U.S.
My work is influenced by graffiti and street art, with a style that mixes detailed character work, playful imagery, and vivid environments. I’m especially drawn to creating creatures and worlds that feel like they have their own personalities and stories to tell.
One of my favorite things about mural work is the challenge of transforming a physical space. In the course of my career, I’ve painted everything from large exterior walls and commercial spaces to skateparks, residential projects, and even vehicles. I enjoy working with the architecture and surroundings rather than treating a wall like a flat canvas, and I’m comfortable taking an idea from a smaller concept to a large-scale finished piece.
I love projects that give me room to be imaginative, but I also enjoy working with clients to turn their ideas into something unique to them. My style can move from colorful and whimsical to strange, gritty, dark, or surreal depending on the project. At the end of the day, I want to create work that has personality—something that transforms the space, catches your attention, and gives you something new to discover the longer you look at it.
