Fanged Beast Emergence by KATER in Portland
Fanged Beast Emergence
An enormous, sharp-toothed creature bursts from a wall in Portland, its gaping mouth and wild eyes demanding attention. This Mural/Graffiti artwork, found on a street corner, uses electrifying yellow, green, and pink hues with bold black outlines. The dynamic spray paint technique gives the beast a sense of motion and menace, suggesting themes of urban fantasy or unleashed imagination. The mural invites passersby to confront their own monsters—real or imagined—on the city streets.
Meet the Artist
Portland, United StatesI’m a Portland-based muralist and visual artist with a love of bold colors, surreal landscapes, and bringing a little bit of the unexpected into everyday spaces. I have been painting since 2010, and I’ve created murals across the U.S.
My work is influenced by graffiti and street art, with a style that mixes detailed character work, playful imagery, and vivid environments. I’m especially drawn to creating creatures and worlds that feel like they have their own personalities and stories to tell.
One of my favorite things about mural work is the challenge of transforming a physical space. In the course of my career, I’ve painted everything from large exterior walls and commercial spaces to skateparks, residential projects, and even vehicles. I enjoy working with the architecture and surroundings rather than treating a wall like a flat canvas, and I’m comfortable taking an idea from a smaller concept to a large-scale finished piece.
I love projects that give me room to be imaginative, but I also enjoy working with clients to turn their ideas into something unique to them. My style can move from colorful and whimsical to strange, gritty, dark, or surreal depending on the project. At the end of the day, I want to create work that has personality—something that transforms the space, catches your attention, and gives you something new to discover the longer you look at it.
