Uproot by Sr7aneh in Dearborn

Uproot

The painting navigates the devastation and helplessness of watching my hometown be under threat of erasure. The idea of land and people being effortlessly scooped up by a tractor is reflecting the history, stories, relatives, land, and memories being unjustly "uprooted" here are many objects in the painting that symbolize my hometown and our memories together. The dearest one to me is my village's sacred tree "Bayt al Zaki". The bottom left of the painting meant to symbolize the helplessness and devastation I felt watching my hometown under threat of brutal annexation. the imagery of silhouettes meant to express how I live in the shadows of the oppressors.
