The Mirror by Rebecca Dzartov in Melbourne

The Mirror

2020, 20 x 24 inches (50x60cm), Oil, Acrylic & Recycled Plastic on canvas. Let’s talk about bodies for a hot minute. I believe men and women have been bombarded with so much experiences and thoughts from such a young age that we are so distracted we fail to recognise that the bodies we have, the animals, flowers, fruits, vegetables and basically like every product, is made symmetrically. We are literally surrounded by symmetrical objects 24/7 that I think creates a subconscious desire in us as individuals to create balance in our own lives and soul somehow. On one hand gardening, painting, building etc. helps us to grow in skill and character while creating something beautiful. On the other hand though, the desire for balance can come from a place of self-righteousness. Judging people or the world or anything really through your feelings and opinions, as if your morals are perfect, this only results in grief instead of gratefulness.
