Shes a Long Way From Suburban Towns
I made a painting about feeling lost in a new environment. This painting is titled “She’s a Long Way from Suburban Towns”. This is one of the nine paintings that I showcased in my solo exhibition Onion City Memories.
If you’ve been following my work for a while you’ll know that I use original characters to express what I’m going through and with that there is almost always a parallel between what I am going through and what my subject is going through. In the case of this painting I have my character Mona in both her wolf form and human form. The wolf form is more finished while her human portrait is merely a rough sketch. I did this to represent how she became a wolf in a new environment and she’s holding on to a memory of her prior self. She must navigate in this new environment as a very different version of herself.

Meet the Artist
Chicago, United StatesMy name is Mahmud, and/or Muddy for short. I am an artist from Chicago and I have been creating art for most of my life.
I make art for those seeking some escapism from the mundane of the day to day grind. Escapism has always been important for my imagination, inspiration, and overall mental health. So step into my world and let my art be your escape, your refuge, your happy place if you will. Get lost in these textured multi-layered stories. Let the worries of the world fade away, and recharge that inner child of yours.
Within my art, I have developed a few original characters that represent a constant battle between negative and positive energy. My characters are used to depict emotions both good and bad, internal struggles, as well as internal victories. I strive to tell new and/or continued stories with each new piece that I create. My art is very narrative driven and different pieces tend to represent panels within the same story board. The world that I have created through art is called Onion City, a parallel world to Chicago as well as other places that I have lived in and traveled to.
