Nopales in Bloom by Alex Nason in Seattle
Nopales in Bloom
Nopales in Bloom is a series of five painted signal boxes created for the Henderson HUBS program in partnership with the City of Henderson. Installed at Fox Ridge Park, the designs feature Nevada’s native prickly pear cactus rendered in bold black-and-white linework layered over vibrant color gradients. The artwork celebrates resilience, local ecology, and the beauty of what’s already growing all around us—bringing moments of color, care, and visual rhythm to everyday infrastructure. Installed June 2025.
Meet the Artist
Seattle, United StatesI’m a Seattle-based artist and muralist with a background in visual communication, public art, and creative project management. My work blends bold color, illustrative linework, and a strong sense of narrative, often shaped by themes of connection, resilience, and place. Alongside my independent practice, I’ve spent years working in arts administration and public art consulting, which means I bring both creative vision and logistical fluency to every project. Whether I’m designing a mural, creating custom artwork, or collaborating with communities and clients, my goal is to make thoughtful, human-centered work that feels inviting, meaningful, and alive in its environment.
