Malinda Rising by Hugo Medina in Freeville

Malinda Rising

Malinda Mural – 2017 - Aerosol on a wall, 50 ft x 74 ft, $40,000. The Renaissance Phoenix Downtown features one of two murals commissioned by Downtown Phoenix Inc. The mural honors the hotel’s historical significance and the life of Malinda "Malindy" Curtis, an African American woman whose spirit is believed to inhabit the alley. Phoenix's first luxury hotel, the Hotel Adams, was destroyed by a fire in 1910, and the Renaissance was constructed in its place in 1973.
