Mixed media painting created in my studio. For this piece I have used a mixed technique which includes hand cut stencils, glazing, palette knife, drawing and traditional painting. I mixed together materials such as watercolours, acrylic and spray paints, charcoal, oil pastels and gold paint.
Mixed media artist
My work seeks to blend traditional portraiture with abstract elements, resulting in pieces that are both grounded in reality and infused with a sense of dynamic energy, striving to capture the essence of each individual I portray.
My creative process is highly intuitive, with each piece evolving organically as I work. I often begin by layering different materials and textures, using a variety of media such as acrylics, oils, spray paints, charcoal and pastels to build up a rich, multifaceted surface. From there, I use realistic drawing and painting techniques to bring the portrait to life, carefully capturing the subject's features and expressions in a way that feels authentic and true to life.
But even as I strive for realism, I am always seeking to push the boundaries of what a portrait can be. I incorporate abstract elements into my work to add depth and complexity, using color, shape, and texture to evoke a sense of mood or emotion.
The resulting portraits are not just representations of a physical likeness, but also windows into the inner world of the subject. Through my work, I hope to create a space for contemplation and reflection, inviting viewers to engage with the complex, multi-layered nature of human experience.
