This was the first mural I created for HolaKids, a Learning in Action Program and Spanish immersion preschool. This is a public wall located in the Portola District of San Francisco. The client wanted lettering with the company name depicting a play on words. "Hola Kids" is the preschool name and the wall faced an elementary school, creating a Spanish dialogue between the two schools as well as the public. I designed this mural with all Spanish-speaking cultures in mind and focused on yarn art and embroidery as this stretches across many cultures. I used Mexican embroidery art "Huichol" as the background and interior pattern within the letters. Painted primarily in aerosol paints with a graffiti style using thick drop shadows, a black outline, and a white highlight. I also incorporated acrylic brushwork to bring out the small details that are essential to the embroidery and yarn work I was representing.
STATEMENT
I am a fine artist and muralist based in California. I love exaggerating color and finding palettes that mimic colors that make up our natural world. I am currently inspired to create surrealist landscapes including sunsets, mountains, skyscapes, and imaginary dimensions within the clouds. I often develop a deeper meaning connected to consciousness and spirituality.
