Highland Warrior
This young highlander warrior is from the mountains of Papua New Guinea. He is adorned in the jewellery of shells, beads and bird of paradise feathers. The tribes of the Eastern Highlands are friendly and welcoming to outsiders, but this young man’s stare is intense, proud and unflinching. The modern world may mould us in its image, but this man is unmoved, he carries on his ancestors traditions and ways in his stride.

I want to attract the viewer with a likeness which is familiar and recognisable. Then keep the audience searching for character, personality and energy.
There is such a challenge in portraiture. There is such a thrill to see lines, strokes and colour transform into human form. I’m inspired by identity, story and temperament coming to life in art.
