Gilding Leila

Fellow artist Leila Dear has been captured whilst gilding. The windows in the background have been reduced to pale blue blocks that contrast well with the 3D quality caused in her shoulder by the faithful depiction of the pattern on the shirt. This piece is painted in acrylic on linen board with areas of the surface left black, and the gilding that Leila was performing on the illustration in front of her has been gilded. Can't do that on the computer! These different finishes bring a satisfying change of texture to the surface that draw the eye, and make the final portrait unique.
