Echoes of the Tocobaga Tribe
This mural is a visual narrative centered on themes of unity, transformation, and cultural memory. The central image of hands holding symbolizes a collective vision—emphasizing unity, peace among one another, and harmony with the land. The surrounding grid and dot patterns represent change and progress: the building of cities, the establishment of landmarks, and the planning of our shared future.
The red geometric pattern pays homage to indigenous traditions, drawing inspiration from textiles, pottery, and fishing nets used in their culture. A pile of shells rests at the base, serving as a symbol of the past—echoes of memory left behind by those who came before us.
Movement and energy are expressed through waves and subtle glints of glitter, capturing nature’s constant flow. The inclusion of native fish and flowers of Florida speaks to growth, abundance, and a connection to place. The Channelside wave motif represents Tampa’s Channelside district, honoring its evolving urban identity.
Finally, the sunbeam and butterflies reflect themes of rebirth and new beginnings, while a trio of Tocobaga canoes signifies a quiet migration—carrying ancestral spirit and history forward into the future.

Tampa, United StatesMy name is Alexander, I am a abstract expressionist street style portrait painter. I graduated with a bachelors degree in industrial product design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. My mediums are acrylics, pens, fake flowers, wood, metal, and spray paints. I create because it makes me feel free and at Peace, it is my passion to inspire others. My process: beginning with the background I using three to four colors that complement each other. From there, I add textures into the paint before it drys. Next I add the portrait in a way the background texture compliments the facial features and colors used. As I paint the portrait, I choose a focal point and build the paint to relay dimension. I also use color shift, 3-D elements, and glow in the dark paint so that painting is never the same depending on the angle and light, forcing viewer to move around my work.
