Echo by Kaileigh Macrae in London

Echo

Narcissus gets all the attention but have you heard of Echo🌼🫦 Narcissus was the boy who fell in love with his own reflection. Many are unaware it was an interaction with a mountain nymph named Echo that would lead him to the prophesied waters of his demise. Echo was cursed by Hera, wife of Zeus, to eternally repeat the final words spoken by another. This was punishment for distracting the goddess with endless stories while her husband engaged in adulterous dalliances. Encountering Narcissus in the forest, Echo fell madly in love with the boy’s beauty. Unable to express her feelings, Echo repeated his last words back to him. Unsettled and frustrated by the stranger’s mimicking, Narcissus fled to a nearby pool where he became obsessed with his reflection on the water’s surface. So consumed with his appearance, he did not eat or drink. Narcissus withered away staring at his own beauty. A daffodil sprouted where his body once lay. Rejected by her love, Echo fled to the forest. Her body disappeared with grief leaving all but her voice repeating her lost love’s final words. An echo.
