Broadstairs Beach by Hamley Jenkins in London
Broadstairs Beach
Landscape Artist of the Year invited me to join their heat at Broadstairs as a Wildcard Artist in 2018 during the Brexit period and this is the piece was painted during the 6 hour slot!
The only participant to turn my canvas to the walled beach reinforcements, I found great meaning in the little motorbike parked there with the flag of St George stuck to the petrol tank, combined with the large 'MUM' scrawled in chalk on the wall below and the seagull that briefly flew above. Also featured is another participant sheltering from the sun as they sketched, who was interviewed later in the day (see photo).
The paint is laid down quite thinly, like a watercolour but in acrylics. Sold unframed.
