I was waiting for my breakfast at the local diner on a rainy day when I noticed this fellow doing the same thing. I played with something I learned from Rembrandt. By increasing the surface area with textured paint I can increase the amount of light that is reflected thereby making certain colours appear more saturated. For instance, the red of his jacket is the same red on his shoulder as it is in the lower parts, but it appears more luminous
