Around The Neighborhood
Growing up in Saskatoon, I’ve watched Broadway evolve into a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood—a hub that fosters creativity and connection. It’s a gathering point for music, food, fashion, fitness, and so much more. This mural, Round the Neighborhood, reflects the energy and diversity that define this special place, celebrating its role as a cultural and social anchor in Saskatoon.
The design draws inspiration from the rhythm of daily life in Broadway. The interaction illustrated in the mural tells a story of a day in the life of someone experiencing the neighborhood. From a bike ride down the Meewasin Trail to a stop for coffee, a friendly greeting from a neighborhood cat, and picking up bike parts before meeting a friend for supper, the mural encapsulates the charm and activity of Broadway.
The bold and modern color palette, paired with a playful and minimalist design style, reflects the neighborhood’s ever-evolving creativity. Influenced by contemporary mural art and abstract works by artists like Picasso, the geometric patterns and shapes invite curiosity and spark the imagination. The flowing composition encourages viewers to walk around the mural, discovering new perspectives and details as they go.
High-contrast colors ensure the mural catches the eye from a distance while offering enough detail to reward closer inspection. The hope is that this piece not only revitalizes what makes Broadway unique but also serves as a visual story of connection, creativity, and the small, beautiful moments that make life in this neighborhood so special.
