Gouache and colored pencil on arches paper
This piece draws inspiration from Kadir Van Lohuizen's Where Will We Go? project and the Rising Tide exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York, envisioning a future where New York City is submerged beneath rising sea levels.
Blending the iconic NYC skyline with surreal aquatic elements—such as dolphins, fish, and discarded urban debris like plastic bags and nets—the artwork highlights the intersection of human impact and natural ecosystems. Light, layered gouache washes and detailed colored pencil work create a blue-toned composition that evokes both tranquility and somber reflection. Ultimately, the piece serves as a poignant visual commentary on climate change, urging a reevaluation of humanity's relationship with the environment and the urgent need for change.
