Britta Ambauen

Britta is a Seattle-based artist working in oils, acrylics and gouache. Her paintings feature figures and portraits in an exaggerated color-scape with layered patterns. She draws inspiration from motherhood, powerful women, loving people, and the perspective of children. Britta earned her BFA in Fine Art from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with an emphasis in printmaking. When she wasn’t galavanting in the mountains, Britta spent her time in the art building: painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpting. Two years after graduating, Britta quit her job as an executive assistant and rented a studio space in the Eldorado Spring Art Center, with the intention of living by her art. To pay the rent, she found side work doing jewelry production and discovered a new creative passion. In 2009, Britta launched her own jewelry line, which is still in operation. Over the years, when time and headspace allowed, Britta has continued to draw, paint, model clay, and create etchings. With the birth of her daughter, Fera, in 2023, and passing of her 40th birthday in 2024, Britta felt a shift in her soul and a desire to return to her original calling as a fine artist. She is excited to explore the peaks, valleys, seas, and skies of the two-dimensional plane. Anything is possible. Britta lives in Seattle, WA with her partner, David, and her daughter, Fera. When not creating artwork and jewelry, Britta enjoys reading picture books with Fera snuggled in her lap, running, climbing, and lying on the floor with massage balls carefully positioned under her taught upper back muscles.
