Writtle College University Basketball Court Mural by Molly Hawkins in Bristol
Writtle College University Basketball Court Mural
The first ever 3 x 3 Basketball Court in the UK was created in summer 2021 at Writtle College University. The bespoke floor art installation was designed and installed by Molly Hawkins and her team of painters using tennis court paint and painting equipment.
‘Through the merging of Art and Basketball, we see an exciting opportunity in rejuvenating these neglected sports spaces, by painting vibrant artworks on the courts. The energy and response I see from artist painted Basketball courts is incredible, and I notice a movement in how the impact of art can inspire sports!
Hopefully the merging of these two vibrant entities will continue to grow and ignite passion for both Basketball & mural painting.
My design concept for this piece focuses on how shapes and colour can create dynamic motion. The colours I chose create a clash in energy, that to me, feel really exciting and powerful. The vibrant themes of the court I hope will ignite passion and creativity!! ’
