Woven Building Blocks by Shiri Phillips in Omaha
Woven Building Blocks
I create vibrant, textured works that explore color, material, and emotion through painting, weaving, collage, and sculpture. Rooted in intuition and play, my practice embraces the transformative potential of everyday materials and the unexpected beauty of imperfection. Working across an eclectic mix of materials—including recycled paper, paint, resin, textiles, and everyday objects—I construct layered compositions that pulse with color and energy, building meditative spaces where structure and spontaneity intertwine.
Guided by an instinctive relationship to color, I approach each piece stroke by stroke, weaving bold hues into a sensory language that connects memory, emotion, and presence. My palettes are shaped not by formula but by feeling—sometimes tied to seasons, moments of joy, or visceral memories of growing up between the Mediterranean and Southern California. In my hands, color becomes both a map and a mood, carrying the emotional charge of lived experience.

Meet the Artist
Omaha, United StatesShiri Phillips is a painter in Omaha, NE. She studied at the University of Nebraska at Omaha's College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media and received a bachelor’s degree in Art History. Drawing inspiration from the nuances of Impressionism and the structured elements of graphic design, her artwork mirrors a harmonious blend of these influences.
Impasto painted strokes of bright colors are the framework of artist Shiri Phillips’ abstract artworks. Phillips uses thick strokes of color and places them with precision on canvas, creating a graphic-like or pixelated look. Her art is defined by the deliberate use of upbeat colors to convey an emotional and physical response. Inspired by the vibrant surroundings she found growing up on the Mediterranean and the Southern Californian Coast, Phillips is driven by the philosophy of “color is life.”
“My art is paired with intent to deliver pieces that hope to give the viewer the comfort of structure, along with the emotional release of abstraction. My study and love for Impressionism is also reflected in my art. The bold colors and loose brushstrokes are reminiscent of the great impressionist painters that I fell in love with as a young girl. By overlaying the various mediums in an abstracted or impressionistic way, I hope to create a unique and vivid experience for the viewer.”
Born in Los Angeles, Phillips relocated to Israel at an early age and returned to the United States to finally settle in Omaha, Nebraska. Phillips has made a strong and swift impact since she started exhibiting her artworks. Her international experiences shape her colorful paintings. Her rapidly growing collector base shares her love for artworks that burst with energy beyond the canvas to fill any space with positivity and joy. Within a short time, her works have already been exhibited in galleries and art fairs throughout the United States, including in New York and Los Angeles.
